On August 21 (Wednesday), the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) named former India fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar as their assistant coach for the upcoming assignments.
Sridhar will be part of Afghanistan’s dressing room for both the one-off Test against New Zealand and the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Most recently, Sridhar was part of India’s setup as their fielding coach, a successful stint that lasted over 300 matches, including two ODI and T20 World Cups.
The 54-year-old is a Level-3 certified coach who has spent a lot of time at India’s grassroots level with the Indian U-19 team and as a spin bowling coach. However, Afghanistan's working capacity has yet to be ascertained.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board wish Sridhar fills the role effectively and hope to have long term contract with him in the future,” Afghanistan’s press release read.
