NEWSSouth Africa on Tuesday rested pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada for the three-match ODI series against India beginning on Wednesday in order to manage his workload.
"Proteas seam bowler, Kagiso Rabada, has been released from the team for the Betway One-Day International (ODI) series against India due to high workloads over a sustained period of time and the need for him to recover prior the outbound Test series against New Zealand next month," an official statement by Cricket South Africa (CSA) said.
Rabada, who featured in back-to-back tournaments from September to November in IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup, also played the three Tests against India and claimed 20 wickets from six innings as the hosts clinched the series 2-1.
South Africa has not named a replacement for him but retained George Linde as an extra spin-bowling option.
The first two ODIs between India and South Africa will be played in Boland Park in Paarl on January 19 and 21.
