Rachael Haynes doubtful starter for second ODI with elbow injury

Beth Mooney may take up the opening slot if Haynes is ruled out of the second ODI

Australia Women suffered yet another injury blow ahead of the second ODI against India on Friday with opening batter Rachael Haynes taking a painful blow on the elbow during a net session. The Australian vice-captain made an unbeaten 93 in the opening match of the series while passing 2000 ODI runs and turned away in pain before leaving the net a few moments after the blow. Although Australia have many replacements ready to take the spot, it will be a blow because of the stability that Haynes provides to the set-up. It must be noted that she hasn't missed a match in the format since the 2017 World Cup.

Australia have a huge injury problem going on with Jess Jonassen unavailable throughout the India series and Tayla Vlaeminck has been ruled out of the ODIs having suffered an Achilles problem. Nicola Carey also have an abdominal strain for which she was unavailable for the opening encounter on Monday.

Australia have recalled spinner Sophie Molineux to the squad to fill in for Jess Jonassen. If Haynes is ruled out of the ODI, then Beth Mooney may partner with Alyssa Healy as openers in Brisbane or the management might hand a debut cap to Georgia Redmayne who impressed the selectors in the National Cricket League and the Women's Hundred.
