Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a serious injury while fielding at mid-off on Day 2 of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh on Saturday (August 31). Trying to stop a ball from going for a four, Bangladesh's senior batter dived full length and hit the ground hard while landing on his shoulder.
The ball, a beautiful straight drive from Rizwan, could not be stopped eventually as it raced away to the boundary. But Rahim was seen grimacing in pain as he called for the physio immediately. He left the field and did not return even as Tea was called.
Chandika Hathurasingha, the coach of the Bangladesh team, looked worried when the cameras pointed towards the dressing room.
Rahim is one of the lynchpins in the Bangladeshi batting lineup as he holds one end up, and the other batters then score freely from the other end. He scored a magnificent 191 in the first Test to take Bangladesh beyond Pakistan’s first-innings total.
In the ongoing second Test, Pakistan, after being asked to bat first, lost Abdullah Shafique in the first over. However, skipper Shan Masood and youngster Saim Ayub added 107 for the second wicket to stabilise the hosts' innings. Mehidy first got Masood leg before, and then removed Saim Ayub, stumped by Litton Das to push Pakistan on the back foot. They lost the wickets of Saud Shakeel and Babar Azam to head to Tea at 185/5.
Bangladesh lead the two-match series 1-0.
