Former Indian and Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid is all set for a second innings with the franchise as he's reportedly signed a deal to be the head coach for the IPL 2025 season. Dravid, who led the franchise in 2012 and 2013 and then served as team director and mentor in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, moved to Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in 2016 as the Jaipur-based franchise were banned for two seasons due to their involvement in the betting scandal.
ESPNcricinfo has reported that Dravid has already signed a deal with Rajasthan Royals and is now in talks regarding retentions ahead of the upcoming mega auction. Dravid has also had a good working relationship with Royals skipper Sanju Samson, with whom he has been working since his captaincy days.
With Dravid now at the helm of affairs, Kumar Sangakkara, who has been RR’s Director of Cricket, will likely move on to a bigger role with other teams under the Royals’ conglomerate.
Despite being one of the most consistent teams in the Indian Premier League over the last few years, a title has eluded Rajasthan Royals for 15 years. In IPL 2024, they crashed out of the playoffs, in Qualifier 2, at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). They made it to the final in the 2022 edition, but, on that occasion, Gujarat Titans edged them to become the champions.
