Former India head coach and one of the greatest batters of all time, Rahul Dravid, went candid on Breakfast With Champions, opening up about his taste in Punjabi music and the players with the best playlists in the Indian dressing room.
“Shubh is one very popular singer. These guys talk about his songs. And the guy who unfortunately got killed (Sidhu Moosewala). I think there are a lot of his songs that I like, and the boys used to listen to them in the dressing room,” Dravid revealed, as reported by TOI.
When host Gaurav Kapur asked Dravid who usually takes charge of the music in the dressing room, the 52-year-old smiled and said: “Actually, everyone wears headphones these days.
"On the boombox, Rishabh Pant plays good songs. Arshdeep Singh plays it well too - he has good taste in music. Hardik Pandya can be great fun. Virat is a great mimic. He doesn’t do it very often nowadays, but he’s a phenomenal mimic.”
Dravid also admitted that his Punjabi music knowledge grew during his time with the national team, while clarifying that his Hindi has always been strong.
“Hindi achi phle si thi yaar, aisi baat nahi hai. Aisi baat nahi hai ki Bangalore se hai toh Hindi nahi aati, aise mat bolo. (My Hindi was good even earlier, it’s not like that. It’s not like just because I’m from Bangalore, I don’t know Hindi - don’t say that.)
“Punjabi music mein definitely improvement ho gaya hai. (There’s definitely been improvement in Punjabi music).”
Under Dravid’s tenure, India finished runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home before lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies - their first ICC title in 11 years.
