Rahul Tewatia's innings was the turning point: Mohit Sharma

The batter smashed an unbeaten 18-ball 36 to take his team home in the last over

After pulling off a nervy three-wicket victory, against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohit Sharma has praised Rahul Tewatia for finishing things off for his team - something he has been doing for some time now.

On April 21 (Sunday), Tewatia came in to bat with his side requiring 40 more to win from 28 deliveries. He smashed an unbeaten 36 off 18 to take his team home in the last over.

“For the last 3 years, he has been with the GT team. He has previously done it multiple times [finishing matches for his side]. All credit goes to him. At the nets, he practices these same scenarios. It is also a challenge for us when we bowl to him. He played a vital innings which no doubt was the turning point of the game for us,” Mohit said at the post-match press conference.

GT has not had the best of runs of late, winning just two of their last five matches. They will hope to get on a winning streak from here to make the playoffs.

“There were a lot of positives from the game," Mohit said, reflecting on the game.

"As a bowling unit, we did well. The plan was to take the game deep rather than being too focused on the run rate. Sai Kishore was the anchor, and he bowled really well. These 2 points were extremely necessary. We have been desperately looking to build on the momentum,” said Mohit Sharma after the game."

Gujarat, who have eight points from as many matches, next take on Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on April 24 (Wednesday).
