Well, look away, cricket fans.
Already on this tour, rain has played spoilsport, with it affecting both the second and third T20I in Pallekele. While the second match turned into a curtailed fixture, the third T20I on July 30 (Tuesday), between India and Sri Lanka, was delayed due to a wet outfield.
According to the weather forecast, conditions will not change much, with rain expected on all days of the three-match ODI series.
As per AccuWeather’s reports, the first ODI on August 2 (Friday) is expected to be heavily affected by showers, with a 78% chance of rain. Not just that, there are even 47% of thunderstorms in the area surrounding the R. Premadesa Stadium in Colombo.
While the scheduled start is at 1:30 PM local time, rain is predicted both before and during the clash. At 11 AM and 12 PM, there is a strong possibility of rainfall, with an extended spell from 4 PM on the same day as well.
Even on Sunday (August 4), AccuWeather’s reports suggest scattered thunderstorms. The worst weather, though, is during the third ODI, when heavy rain is expected in the lead-up to the ODI, making the clash tricky. Luckily, though, the grounds are usually covered fully in Sri Lanka, which means if there are very small showers, the match will restart sooner than in other places around the world.
However, the weather prediction for the entire series is still pretty bad.
