Here are a few noteworthy stats from Match 22 of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 between India U-19 and Uganda U-19 in Tarouba

Despite the COVID chaos in the India U-19 set up, they have managed to win both the matches comprehensively - first against Ireland U-19 and now against Uganda U-19. To be precise, their win against Uganda was emphatic.

Powered by centuries from Angkrish Raghuvanshi (144) and Raj Angad Bawa (162*), India posted a humongous total of 405/5 in their full quota of 50 overs. In reply, Uganda were nowhere near the target. The stand-in Indian skipper Nishant Sindhu was the star among bowlers with a four-wicket haul. Rajvardan Hangargekar with two wickets, Vasu Vats and Vicky Ostwal with one each, saw Uganda bowled out for a paltry total of 79, handing India a massive win by 326 runs. Here are a few notable stats from the match:

Raghuvanshi hitting all along the ground

The lanky Indian opener missed out on an opportunity against South Africa in the first encounter. But, against Ireland, he was in full flow scoring a valuable 79. In the match against Uganda, he bettered his previous innings by scoring 144. In both the innings, against Ireland (65.8%) and Uganda (77.8%) he scored over 65 percent of his runs through boundaries, most of them were grounded ones (fours). In his innings of 144 against Uganda, he had hit 22 fours, which is the most for an Indian in the U-19 World Cup and third-most overall.

Bawa breaks Dhawan’s record

Coming into bat at the score of 85, Bawa played one of the finest innings for an Indian batter in the U-19 World Cup. After hoisting a 206-run partnership for the third wicket with Raghuvanshi, Bawa stayed till the end of the innings and remained unbeaten on 162 from 108 balls. En route his innings, he recorded the highest score for an Indian in the U-19 World Cup. Previously, Shikhar Dhawan in 2004 against Scotland U-19 in Dhaka had scored an unbeaten 155, the highest then.

Bawa takes the aerial route

In his innings of an unbeaten 162, Bawa had hit eight sixes and 14 fours. In an innings in the U-19 World Cup, no other Indian batsmen have hit as many sixes as Bawa. Unmukt Chand in his title-winning knock of 111* against Australia in the 2012 Finals against Australia had hit six sixes, which was the highest. Overall, Michael Hill of Australia had smashed 12 sixes in 2008 against Namibia in Penang, which is the highest. In the overall list, Bawa has hit the joint third most sixes in an innings in the U-19 World Cup.

India post their second 400+ total

Riding on the back of centuries from Raghuvanshi and Bawa, India managed to post a total of 405/5. This is the second time they have posted a total of 400+ in the U-19 World Cup matches. Their highest total of 425/3 came against Scotland in 2004 in Dhaka, the match Dhawan scored 155. By virtue of it, India became the first team in the U-19 World Cup to post 400+ totals twice. There have been six totals of 400+ in the U-19 World Cup, India twice, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and West Indies have achieved this feat once.

A massive win

After posting their second-highest total in the U-19 World Cup, India went on to win by a huge margin. The bowling department led by their skipper Sindhu with four wickets, saw Uganda bowled out for a paltry total of 79 and hand India a win by 326 runs. This is the biggest margin of win for India in terms of runs in the U-19 World Cup. Overall, only Australia against Kenya in 2002 had won by a bigger margin – 430 runs – when they had set the highest ever total of 480/6.

First 200+ partnership in U-19 WC for India

India at the score of 85/2 were in sort of trouble when Bawa and Raghuvanshi joined hands. Despite the situation, both batsmen didn’t bog down. Their aggressive approach saw them record a 206-run partnership for the third wicket at a run rate of 8.8. Hence, helping India post a total of 405. Their partnership of 206 was the first instance of an Indian pair stitching a 200+ partnership. Previously, the best partnership for India in the U-19 World Cup was between Manvinder Bisla and Parthiv Patel (183) in 2002 against Canada.

Sixes galore

Eight sixes by Bawa, four sixes by Raghuvanshi and one six by Dinesh Bana, in total, 13 maximums hit by Indian batsmen in the innings. This is the most number of sixes hit by India in an innings in the U-19 World Cup. Previously, in 2014 against West Indies in Sharjah, India had hit 13, the highest then.
