Rajasthan Royals joined Chennai Super Kings to become the second team to get knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Royals were on the wrong side of things against Mumbai Indians, losing by a margin of 100 runs at home, their second-biggest defeat in IPL history, on May 1 (Thursday)
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, RR skipper Riyan Parag inserted the five-time IPL winners to bat first. Mumbai batters smashed the ball to all parts of the ground, with Ryan Rickelton smashing a 38-ball 61 to get them off to a flyer. Suryakumar Yadav (48) and Hardik Pandya’s (48) partnership took MI to 217/2 after their 20 overs.
In response, RR barely got off the blocks, losing centurion from last clash, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, for a second-ball duck. They went from 18/2 to 76/6 before requiring Jofra Archer’s cameo (30) to reduce the margin of defeat.
Parag rued their batting performance in the post-match presentation, stating that the middle order had to step up.
"You've got to give credit to MI for the way they batted. They kept wickets. Yeah, 190-200 would have been ideal. We've been getting good starts. But it's up to the middle order - myself, Dhruv - to step up. We've done a lot of things right and wrong. A lot of mistakes and small errors. We want to focus on them, and focus on the good [stuff] as well,” Parag said.
