Shimron Hetmyer was retained for INR 11 crore by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, but the left-hander from West Indies failed to justify his price tag. Hetmyer managed only 239 runs at an average of 21.73 and a strike rate of 145.7. He failed to finish quite a few games and that played a major role in RR getting eliminated from the tournament.
The Royals lost eight of their 10 games while chasing, even bottling quite a few easy run chases, and Hetmyer was right in the middle of those chases. The 28-year-old averages just 22.6 in the last season as well. Don’t be surprised if RR let him go ahead of the next season.
Dhruv Jurel is just 24 and had a decent IPL 2025, finishing as RR’s third-highest run-getter. However, it wasn’t an INR 14 crore-worthy season, and that could be the reason why Rajasthan might release him ahead of the next season. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 333 runs at an average of 37 and a strike rate of 156.3.
Alongside Hetmyer, Jurel also failed to finish many encounters for the Royals. To his defence, finishing games is the most difficult job in the 20-over format, and Jurel wasn’t as bad as some of the others in the league. The Royals could release him and then get him back in the auction for a cheaper price. Jurel will most probably cost them less than INR 14 crore.
Tushar Deshpande, who was bought for INR 6.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, claimed nine wickets in 10 games at an average of 37.8 and an economy rate of 10.6. Amongst bowlers who bowled at least 30 overs in the IPL 2025, Deshpande had the fourth-worst economy rate. The right-arm seamer was bad across all three phases.
If they have to retain Indian seamers, the Royals could instead keep Sandeep Sharma and Akash Madhwal.
