Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Lhuan-dre Pretorius has received his maiden T20I call-up, after being named in South Africa’s squad for the T20I tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand set to be played in July.
Pretorius recently received his maiden Test call-up, also for the Zimbabwe tour, and his exploits in T20 cricket have rightly and deservedly earned him a T20I call-up.
He rose to fame in SA20 2025, smashing 397 runs at a strike rate of 166.8, and is currently representing Hampshire in the Vitality T20 Blast, where he’s scored 110 runs at an average of 36.67 and a strike rate of 141. RR snapped him up as a replacement player in IPL 2025, though he did not make a single appearance for the franchise.
Pretorius aside, three other players have also been handed maiden T20I call-ups: Corbin Bosch, Senuran Muthusamy and 28-year-old Rubin Hermann, who represents Paarl Royals in SA20.
South Africa and Chennai Super Kings sensation Dewald Brevis has also been named in the squad, which will be captained by veteran Rassie van der Dussen in the absence of incumbent skipper Aiden Markram.
The squad also sees left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, who is representing Texas Super Kings (TSK) in MLC 2025, make his national return after almost a year. Lungi Ngidi and Reeza Hendricks are the other two seniors in the squad.
The T20 tri-series will be played from July 14 to July 26, with all the matches taking place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
