Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) designated skipper Rajat Patidar was fined INR 24 Lakh for a slow over-rate offence against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow on May 23.
Patidar was fined despite not captaining the side on the day, as he’s the permanent skipper of the side and not Jitesh Sharma, who was the stand-in skipper against SRH. Patidar was suffering from a back injury and played only as a batter in the game.
Notably, this was RCB’s second over-rate offence of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and hence, according to the IPL Code of Conduct that pertains to over-rate offence, Patidar was fined 24 Lakh and other members of the playing 12 (including the impact player) were fined either INR 6 Lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower.
Earlier in the season, Sanju Samson was also fined INR 24 Lakh for the second slow over-rate offence of the season, despite Riyan Parag being the stand-in skipper of Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Meanwhile, SRH skipper Pat Cummins was also found guilty of the slow over-rate offence and will have to cough up INR 12 Lakh in fines as it was his first offence.
In the game, RCB were up against a massive total of 231/6 set by the SRH batters in Lucknow, with the playoffs on the horizon, and they ended up losing the game by 42 runs. They still have a chance of ending up in the top two and have a game left in the season on May 27 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
