Rajat Patidar became the fourth skipper to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) in his debut season as captain.
Under his captaincy, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the final of the IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad on June 3 (Tuesday), winning the trophy for the first time in their 18-year history.
Shane Warne for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2008, Rohit Sharma for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013, and Hardik Pandya for Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 are the only other three skippers to win the IPL in their first year as captain.
Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis are the six regular captains who have led RCB in the past, but it’s Patidar who has given them their first trophy.
Defending 190, Krunal Pandya (2/16) and Yash Dayal (1/18) were phenomenal for RCB. For PBKS, Prabhsimran Singh (26 off 22) and Nehal Wadhera (15 off 18) played negative-impact knocks, while Shashank Singh did score 61* off 30 but missed at least four easy full-tosses.
