BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla is set to get a promotion and become the BCCI President as the current office-holder, Roger Binny, is turning 70 in July, which is the age limit for the position.
Binny, whose right-arm pace was crucial in helping India win the 1983 World Cup, will turn 70 on July 19, after which he’ll be ineligible to hold the post of BCCI President as per the current guidelines set in the BCCI constitution. Binny has played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India and has taken 124 international wickets.
As per reports, Vice-President Shukla will replace him and hold that position until the next AGM is held and Binny’s replacement is elected for the position.
Earlier, Binny took over from Sourav Ganguly in 2022 and held the reins of the world’s richest cricket board along with Secretary Jay Shah. Shah later moved to become the ICC Chairman, and Devijit Saikia replaced him as the BCCI secretary.
Meanwhile, Shukla, who has been a senior BCCI statesman for many years, even representing the board in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy, has been the Vice-President since 2020. Earlier, he was the Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) till 2017 and has also been Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the past till 2018.
