Ramiz Raja affirms PCB’s Women’s PSL plans

Despite the poor performance from Pakistan team, PCB chairman Raja confirmed that Women’s PSL will go ahead

After upsetting the hosts in the Women’s ODI World Cup warm-up, all eyes were on Bimah Maroof’s side against the titans of Women’s cricket. In their World Cup opener, Maroof’s side came second best to India, losing by a huge margin of 107 runs.

The trend continued as Pakistan lost four games on a trot, languishing at the bottom of the table, with zero wins. While their qualification looks almost next to impossible, Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman Ramiz Raja affirmed that Women’s PSL will go ahead as per schedule.

"There is a lot of work to be done in our women's cricket set-up. You have to take into consideration the restrictions and other issues that are unique to women in sports. We have to take steps to have a proper domestic calendar for women with three-day matches," Ramiz told reporters.

"But I am not disappointed at the performances in the World Cup. We have a base and we are planning to launch a Pakistan Super League for women in January next year with foreign players and also working on having a PSL for under-19 players in October this year," he said.

Ramiz stated that the management has already taken steps to ensure a proper domestic calendar, alongside the PSL, which he believes will help increase the revenue streams for the development of women’s cricket in the country.

"The PCB also wants to increase its revenue streams because right now we are totally dependent on our income from the ICC shares and the PSL and we have to increase our properties for more money," he added.
