Jammu & Kashmir created history by defeating Delhi by seven wickets to record their first-ever Ranji Trophy victory over the domestic giants in 65 years. The result came in an Elite Group D match in Delhi, where J&K chased down 179 with ease to secure a memorable win.
Delhi batted first and were bowled out for 211 in their opening innings. Ayush Badoni top-scored with 64, while Harshit Doseja added 65, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered against J&K’s disciplined attack. Medium pacer Auqib Nabi was the standout bowler, claiming 5 for 35 to restrict Delhi and hand his side the early advantage.
Jammu & Kashmir replied strongly with the bat, posting 310 in their first innings. Skipper Paras Dogra led from the front with a composed 106, while Abdul Samad contributed 85. Their middle-order partnership helped J&K gain a crucial 99-run first-innings lead on a surface that offered help to both seamers and spinners.
Delhi showed better resistance in their second innings, with Badoni once again anchoring the effort through a fluent 72. However, they failed to build substantial partnerships, eventually being dismissed for 277. Left-arm spinner Vanshaj Sharma delivered the decisive spell, taking 6 for 68 to set up the game for J&K.
Chasing 179 for victory, Jammu & Kashmir’s top order ensured there were no major hiccups. Opener Qamran Iqbal produced a match-winning unbeaten 133, guiding his team to 179 for 3 and sealing the seven-wicket win inside the final session. With this result, Jammu & Kashmir moved to second place in Group D of the Ranji Trophy standings.
