It was not a happy return to the Ranji Trophy for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who departed for 4 runs in Mumbai’s clash against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai on January 23 (Thursday).
Jaiswal, playing his first Ranji match in two years, began the clash in fine and confident fashion, cutting right-arm seamer Auqib Nabi for a boundary in the very first over of the game. The J&K pacer served width and Jaiswal pounced, picking up from where he left in the Tests against Australia.
However, much to everyone’s shock, the left-hander departed two overs later, with Nabi trapping him LBW from ‘round the wicket. A good length delivery from the fast bowler kept slightly low and skidded quickly off the wicket and that was enough to send Jaiswal packing.
Jaiswal is one of many big names playing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy round. The biggest name of all, without question, is his partner at the other end, team India Test skipper Rohit Sharma.
Rohit is playing his first Ranji Trophy game in a decade, with his last appearance in the competition coming back in 2015.
