Experienced Maharashtra batter Ankit Bawne missed out on the first game after the restart of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. This happened after he was informed about one-match suspension right ahead of the start of their group A match against Baroda in Nashik.
However, the ban was not for any recent incident but one that happened in October, the time when the last match before the break in the Ranji Trophy was played. It was during Maharashtra’s fifth-round match against Services that Bawne was given out by the on-field umpire.
However, he refused to leave the field as it appeared conclusively that the ball had bounced before Shubham Rohilla completed the catch at slip.
Since Bawne, who was captaining the side in that game refused to leave the field, Maharashtra coach Sulakshan Kulkarni and match referee Amit Sharma intervened and managed to get the match going after 15-minutes of suspension.
Bawne, 32, Who has featured for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was having one of his finest Ranji Trophy seasons till he landed the one-match suspension. He has scored 361 runs in five matches at an average of 51.57.
