Ranji Trophy: Mumbai Get India Opener Boost Ahead Of Rajasthan Clash
He was on the tour of Australia in the capacity of ODI backup opener
Yashasvi Jaiswal, after sitting out in the three ODIs in Australia, finally wants some game time and therefore has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) chief of selection committee, Sanjay Patil, that he would be available for selection for the side’s game against Rajasthan in the third round of Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
“He has informed MCA that he is available for the next Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan,” an MCA official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Jaiswal, who was on the tour of Australia in the capacity of ODI backup opener, is not part of India's T20I setup. He would be required for the Test series against South Africa, which will be held in November this year. To be ready for that, Jaiswal wanted to get much-needed match practice.
The southpaw, meanwhile, also decided to give back to the game which has given him so much, by volunteering to sponsor best batter awards in the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) hosted tournaments Harris Shield and Giles Shield.
The school-level tournaments are one of the oldest in the history of the game with their 129th edition underway. Jaiswal himself is a product of the tournaments, having represented Rizvi Springfield High School.
“He has written an email to MSSA informing him about his wish to sponsor the best batsman award in the forthcoming Harris and Giles Shield. He has played those tournaments in school cricket and this is a nice gesture for him to remember where he has come from,” MSSA cricket secretary Nadeem Memon was quoted as saying.
