Ranji Trophy will go ahead as planned: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

The forthcoming season is scheduled to kick-off in 10 days’ time

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the 2021/22 Ranji Trophy season, scheduled to start January 13, will go ahead as planned despite the rising Covid cases in the country. On Sunday India registered over 33,000 new Covid cases, but despite the spread of the Omicron variant expected to peak somewhere towards the end of the month, the BCCI President has confirmed that the Ranji season will go ahead as planned.

"Yes, the Ranji Trophy will proceed as planned," Ganguly told ANI.

Last week, the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy was postponed due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Earlier today, it was also revealed that seven members of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad tested positive for the virus.

There has been no top level domestic red-ball cricket in the country in two years, with the last Ranji Trophy season also getting canceled owing to the pandemic.
