Afghanistan have announced their 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The team will be led by Rashid Khan and have a great balance of youth and experience. Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq returns to the squad after last representing Afghanistan in December 2024.
Naveen adds to the bowling depth in the squad that already has Fazalhaq Farooqi, Noor Ahmad, and Sharafuddin Ashraf. Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman provide great balance to the squad, which also consists of top-order power-hitters like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Darwish Rasooli.
Sediqullah Atal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Ishaq, and Allah Ghazanfar are the other notable inclusions. Wafiullah Tarakhil, Nangyal Kharote, and Abdullah Ahmadzai have been named in the reserves.
Afghanistan have been on the charge in world cricket of late. They made it to the semi-final in the T20 World Cup 2024, beating the likes of New Zealand, Australia and Bangladesh along the way.
Afghanistan begin their Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong on September 9.
