Afghanistan have announced a 15-member squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium starting on June 14, with Rashid Khan rested for the clash as a precautionary measure for his back injury.
The leg spinner was involved with the Gujarat Titans for a two-month-long Indian Premier League and helped them reach the summit clash of the tournament.
However, the 24-year-old was ruled out of the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka away from home due to his lower-back injury. While he recovered and played in the series decider on Wednesday (June 7), the team management wanted their premier spinner to recover after playing non-stop competitive cricket for the past couple of months.
"Rashid was rested from the lone Test match against Bangladesh as he played too much non-stop cricket, and we do not want to take risk with him taking his back injury into consideration," Raees Ahmadzai, Afghanistan assistant coach, said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The 15-member squad has three uncapped players, with young legspinner Izharulhaq replacing Rashid along with pacers Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai and Nijat Masoud.
