Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has issued a strong warning to Australia ahead of the five-match T20I series, starting October 29 (Wednesday), claiming that if Abhishek Sharma gets going, the explosive left-hander will “create chaos.”
The top-ranked T20I batter has been in sensational touch this year, particularly during the Asia Cup 2025, where he smashed 314 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.86 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 200 - performances that earned him the Player of the Series award.
“He’s a gun T20 player. If he’s in for a while, there’s guaranteed entertainment. Irrespective of whether you’re Australian or Indian, you’ll enjoy it. He has the ability to take the game away from you. You don’t want him out there too long because he can create chaos,” said Shastri on Fox Cricket.
Abhishek’s fearless approach at the top has quickly turned him into one of the most dangerous openers in world cricket. Known for attacking from the very first delivery, the 25-year-old left-hander blends raw power with unshakeable confidence.
“His preparation, his belief in his own ability, the range of shots that he has, and then the mindset to go out there and back himself from ball one. From the get-go, he’ll go after the bowling. That’s where he can be extremely dangerous, very explosive, and quietly confident about his own ability,” added Shastri.
Since making his T20I debut, Abhishek has scored 849 runs in 23 innings at an impressive average of 36.91 and a strike rate of 196.08, hammering 78 fours and 60 sixes.
With his current form and attacking mindset, Abhishek will once again be India’s biggest weapon when they take on Australia - and as Shastri warns, the hosts will need to find a way to stop him early or risk being blown away.
