The veteran all-rounder will get his first taste of cricket outside India since his retirement
One of India's finest all-rounders, Ravichandran Ashwin, is set to return to the Indian team, but it will be in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) announced on September 18 (Thursday). The veteran all-rounder announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), to play in overseas leagues, with Hong Kong being his first stop.
Speaking of the opportunity to play in the Sixes, Ashwin said, "We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on Television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part of. This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane, which I am looking forward to playing alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us."
The Sixes, which returned for the first time in seven years in 2024, will be played between November 7 and 9 at the Tin Kwong Road Ground. As many as 12 teams participated in the tournament last season, with Sri Lanka going on to win the title.
Team India did not win any of their games in the tournament last year, losing to Pakistan, New Zealand, England, Oman and UAE
The 39-year-old is also believed to be in talks with Cricket Australia (CA) over a possible Big Bash League (BBL) deal and also the International League T20 (ILT20), where Ashwin could add his experience.
Ashwin has the most international wickets for India after Anil Kumble. He also has 317 T20 wickets from 333 matches at an economy rate of 7.11.
