Ravichandran Ashwin to RCB? 3 IPL Teams Who Could Snatch The CSK Off-Spinner
Reports have emerged that Ashwin is all set to part ways with CSK
What was the most anticipated homecoming in IPL history turned out to be the most disappointing one as Ravichandran Ashwin, purchased for INR 9.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, endured a season to forget for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ashwin played only nine matches and took just seven wickets at an economy over 9.00, often proving to be a liability in the powerplay.
Reports have now emerged that Ashwin is all set to part ways with CSK, putting a premature end to his homecoming. We look at where Ashwin could land in case he cuts ties with the Super Kings.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
After winning their maiden title in IPL 2025, RCB will be looking to strengthen the side further, so what better way to do that than by roping in an experienced winner like Ashwin? The defending champions already have two quality spinning options in Krunal Pandya (SLA) and Suyash Sharma (leggie), so adding Ashwin, an off-spinner, will complete their spin battery.
Ashwin is still someone very effective in the middle-overs, capable of both keeping the runs down and taking the occasional wicket. On top of that, he has an excellent record at the Chinnaswamy as well, having taken 13 wickets in T20s there at an economy of 7.40.
On paper, he is the perfect fit for RCB.
Punjab Kings
A possible second homecoming could happen in as many years for Ashwin if he goes to the Punjab Kings.
PBKS had a lot of weapons in their bowling unit, but something that they dearly missed was a quality off-spinner. Glenn Maxwell did a good job till he was fit, but post his injury, the team got handicapped by the absence of an offie, and that affected the side’s balance in certain matches.
Adding Ashwin to the mix will arguably make PBKS the most flexible team in the entire competition. And there’s no reason why this can’t happen with Ricky Ponting at the helm, since Ashwin and Ponting have previously worked together at DC.
Lucknow Super Giants
LSG's bowling unit seriously lacks experience, and what better way to fix it than by bringing in someone of Ashwin’s calibre?
Both Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi are still very young, and they will also benefit from Ashwin’s presence. Apart from that, the Tamil Nadu man will instantly improve LSG’s raw bowling unit by several notches due to his quality and pedigree.
Not just that, Ashwin also gives LSG a potential Indian captaincy option to occasionally fill in for Pant, should the latter miss a few games.
