Ravindra Jadeja breaks into India's top five Test wicket-takers

The spinner went past Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma to achieve this feat

With five wickets in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand, Ravindra Jadeja has become the fifth-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests. He has surpassed Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma, who had 311 wickets, to break into the top five.

On the day, Glenn Phillips became Jadeja's 312th victim, with the batter being cleaned up by a delivery that came in with the arm. Phillips was the third victim of the day for Jadeja after getting rid of Tom Blundell and Will Young. After tea, he got rid of Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry to pick up his 14th fifer in Test cricket. He eventually finished with 5/65 in 22 overs to help India bowl the Blackcaps out for 235.

Earlier in the series, Jadeja also became only the third Indian to reach a double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets and the second-fastest to achieve the feat after Ian Botham.

Jadeja made his test debut in 2012 and since then has formed a formidable partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin, with whom he has won plenty of matches for the country, especially at home. 231 of Jadeja's 312 wickets have come at home, with the left-arm spinner getting them at an average of 21.78 and a strike rate of 54.2.

With the bat, he has hit as many as four hundreds in 77 Tests, with his runs coming at an average of 35.72. That average shoots up to close to 39 at home.
