One of the all-time great performances by a lower-order batter in a series came to an end today at The Oval as Ravindra Jadeja finished his series with the bat with 516 runs at an astonishing average of 86.00. Jadeja signed off with yet another fifty (53 off 77 balls), his sixth of the series and his sixth in his last eight innings. His efforts helped India stretch their lead beyond 300 as the left-hander once again steadied the ship after overseeing a precarious position.
Through his efforts, Jadeja set a new lower-order record, becoming the Indian batter with the most runs in a series batting at No.6 or lower.

Today was the first time he was dismissed in the second innings (3rd / 4th innings), taking his average in the second innings to a ludicrous 315.00. There’s been only one instance of a batter maintaining a higher average in the second innings in a Test series.
