Having scored five fifties in his last six innings, Ravindra Jadeja is enjoying a dream series with the bat in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.
On Day 5 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Jadeja became only the second visiting batter to score 1000 runs in England while batting at No.6 or lower. He also became only the second Indian to record five 50-plus scores in a single Test series from that position.
Trying to save the Test and keep the series alive, India lost overnight batters Shubman Gill and KL Rahul in the first session and were still trailing by 89 runs when Jadeja joined Washington Sundar in the middle.
Two of India’s most reliable batters when it comes to occupying the crease, Jadeja and Washington, showed great composure right from the start. They not only steadied the innings but also managed to erase the deficit. In the process, both went on to score fifties.
Washington is averaging 40 with the bat in this series, while Jadeja has already scored 400 runs at an average of 100.
Jadeja also became the seventh Indian to cross 1000 Test runs in England, joining an elite group that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant.
