Ravindra Jadeja Reveals How He Worked To Improve His Batting

Jadeja scored a 104 and picked up seven wickets to become the Player of the match in Ahmedabad

India defeated West Indies by a huge margin of an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad, and Ravindra Jadeja shone in the game with 104 runs in the first innings and four wickets in the second innings.

This century is preceded by a splendid run in the England Test series, as Jadeja impressed one and all with his batting, especially in the Lord’s Test, where India came within touching distance of an improbable victory on day five.

Speaking after the victory against West Indies, Jadeja said that he had been working on his batting at the newly built Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and having a fixed batting number (at six) really helped him nail down his batting approach.

“Yeah, I have been working hard with my batting. We had a two-month off, there was no Test cricket or ODIs. I was working on my fitness and I went to the Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, worked on my skills and fitness there,” Jadeja told.

“I had been batting at number 8 and 9 a few years ago, but now I got my place at 6. I have time to prepare myself and I can pace my innings. I don't need to hurry, I don't need to rush unnecessarily. I can go out there, take my time and just pace my innings.”

Jadeja also said that he enjoys playing on red soil surfaces like the one in Ahmedabad, as it brings both his batting and bowling into the picture. The all-rounder also added that being a vice-captain of this Test side was an honour for him.

“I always love playing on red soil pitches. It's fun because as a spinner you get more turn and bounce. So, always as a spinner you want that,” he said.

“I think I was enjoying it and as I got to know that we are playing on a red soil, I thought it would be okay for batting and bowling as well. If the wicket is flat, you can score runs. If the ball is turning, then you can enjoy bowling on the red soil.

“Obviously, I would like to thank the coach, captain and management and selectors because being a vice-captain you are always there as a team's special member and that honour always pleased me. And yeah, whenever the team required, whatever suggestion or regarding anything, I am always there and happy to do it.”
