RCB change name from 'Bangalore' to 'Bengaluru' ahead of IPL 2024

The announcement came during the Unbox event held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (March 19)

Going forward, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be known as Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the franchise announced during the Unbox event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (March 19). This is the first time the franchise has changed its name since its inception in 2008. The announcement was made in the presence of both men's and women's sides.

It was also announced that former India and Karnataka pacer Vinay Kumar, who also played 64 matches for RCB between 2008-2010, will be the third player to be inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame. Last year, the franchise had announced Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers as the first two entrants in the elite list.

RCB take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Chepauk on Friday (March 22). RCB play as many as five matches in the first-leg of the tournament.

Following their game against CSK, they return to Bengaluru for games against Punjab Kings (Mar 25), Kolkata Knight Riders (Mar 29) and Lucknow Super Giants (Apr 2). They then head out to Jaipur to take on Rajasthan Royals on April 6.

After making it to the playoffs for three seasons in a row, RCB finished a disappointing sixth in IPL 2023. They have added Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Swapnil Singh, and Saurav Chauhan from the IPL 2024 auction to further bolster their squad.
