After winning the toss, RCB got off to the worst start possible, going wicketless in the powerplay for the time in their last 14 IPL games against Rajasthan Royals on April 13 (Sunday). It wasn’t a flat wicket, and the RCB bowlers had all their chances to pick a wicket but failed to pick any inside the powerplay.
The Royals didn’t get off to a blazing start, with just 13 runs after the first two overs. But from thereon, the two RR openers - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson - ensured that they picked up a boundary every over. In the fifth over, left-handed Jaiswal absolutely tonked the ball with a six and four off Yash Dayal.
With nine runs off the last powerplay over, the Royals ensured that they went wicketless for the second time in the first six-over phase this season. Not just that, it was the first time RCB had gone wicketless in the powerplay with the ball across their last 14 IPL games.
The last time RCB went wicketless in the powerplay, they ended up conceding 287/3, the highest-ever total in IPL history. While this pitch won’t definitely aid the batters to score above 200, the Royals would definitely want to maximise their good start.
