In a significant move after the 49 per cent equity sale, London Spirit have signed former England men’s team performance director and current director of cricket of the reigning Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mo Bobat.
Bobat will be the new Director of Cricket at the London Spirit, a club which is now jointly owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the oldest club in cricketing history and the one that has the operational rights of the iconic Lord’s cricket stadium as well as cricket’s rule book.
While MCC holds a 51 percent stake, the minority 49 are owned by Tech Titans, a Silicon Valley consortium. Thus, the name of the club was not altered and it remained London Spirit.
Bobat, who will continue to hold his position as Director of Cricket at RCB, said he was honoured to be associated with the Spirit.
"It's an honour to join London Spirit at such an exciting time. The opportunity to shape the cricketing future of this franchise, working with MCC and our new partners, the Tech Titans, is incredibly exciting. I'm looking forward to building something special - on and off the field."
Spirit are currently playing The Hundred 2025 and have won one and lost one game with their win coming against the Welsh Fire and the loss against the cross-city rivals Oval Invincibles in the London Derby, which was also the season opener.
