Tim David, who was integral to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title, will have a new home in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after being snapped up by the Punjab Kings-owned St. Lucia Kings in the CPL 2025 draft.
David was picked as a first-round draft pick by the Kings, and so he returns to St. Lucia, the team with which he began his CPL career. The big-hitting Australian represented Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in CPL 2024, but things did not click for him there, where he managed just 86 runs at an average of 17.00.
In what comes as a blow for the defending champions St Lucia Kings, however, the team have lost the services of their skipper Faf du Plessis, who will not be participating in CPL 2025. Du Plessis will instead be representing the Southern Brave in The Hundred, which has been purchased by Du Plessis’ IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals (DC).
In other news, CPL 2025 will witness a 46-year-old spinner in action as Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) opted to retain the services of Imran Tahir. The leg-spinner has been representing Guyana since 2018 and he is arguably the greatest overseas player in CPL history, having taken 107 wickets at an economy of 6.50.
Along with retaining Tahir, the Warriors also brought back Moeen Ali, who had an outstanding season for them in CPL 2024, taking 15 wickets at an economy of 5.6 while scoring 169 runs on top of that. GAW also snapped up the services of Glenn Phillips.
