Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) might have a new home ground, with the Karnataka government approving an INR 1,650 crore sports complex in Bengaluru’s southern outskirts. As per multiple reports, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approved plans for an 80,000-seater venue on the outskirts of the city.
It comes after a high uncertainty over the future of the current cricketing venue in the city - M Chinnaswamy Stadium - after it was deemed unsafe to host large events. Once completed, the new sporting complex and the stadium will be the second largest in the country, only behind Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
According to StoryBoard 18, “The Karnataka Housing Board, which will fully finance the project, has drawn up plans for a 100-acre multi-sport complex featuring eight indoor and eight outdoor arenas, Olympic-sized swimming pools, gyms, training centers, guest houses, hostels, hotels and a convention hall for international events.”
If it happens, it will be a major boost for RCB, as they can continue playing at home in front of a jam-packed crowd in Bengaluru.
