Ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction that’s set to take place later this month, the first week of November saw franchises finalise and announce the list of players they’ve retained. And in arguably the biggest shock, three-time finalists Delhi Capitals (DC) let go of their skipper Meg Lanning, who captained them to three straight finals.
However, in the ongoing edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Lanning has been proving why ‘class is permanent’ and is making a solid case to be one of the most expensive purchases at the WPL auction in New Delhi on November 27.
After smashing an unbeaten 90* against Perth Scorchers Women in Adelaide last week, Lanning went one better against Sydney Sixers Women today as she hammered 135 off 74 balls opening the batting, smashing 22 fours and 4 sixes. It’s the third-highest individual score in WBBL history and Lanning became the first player in the WBBL to smash over 20 fours in a single innings.
Highest individual score in WBBL history
Lizelle Lee 150* vs Perth Scorchers Women in Sydney, 2024
Grace Harris 136* vs Perth Scorchers Women in North Sydney, 2023
Meg Lanning 135 vs Sydney Sixers Women in North Sydney, 2025
As it stands, with 288 runs to her name, the former Australian skipper is the highest run-getter in WBBL 2025, averaging a stunning 96.00 while striking at nearly 165.00. She and Beth Mooney are the only two batters to post three-digit scores so far in WBBL 2025.
