Renuka Singh takes four as India seal ODI series against Sri Lanka

Renuka Singh claimed 4-28 while opener Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma hit fifties as India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets

Openers Smriti Mandhana (94 off 83 balls) and Shafali Verma (71 off 71 balls) hit unbeaten fifties after pacer Renuka Singh starred with 4-28 as India women's team crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the second ODI at Pallekele. The visitors followed up their 2-1 T20I series win by sealing the ODI series 2-0.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur elected field after winning the toss as Renuka castled opener Hasini Perera for a duck in the first over. The 26-year old medium pacer claimed her second wicket in the fifth over when she bowled teenage opener Vishmi Gunaratne (3).

The Islanders lost Harshita Madavi soon enough when she was trapped leg before by Renuka in the seventh over. They were in further trouble when captain Chamari Atapattu (27) was caught by Verma off Meghna Singh's 16th over.

Keeper-batter Anushka Sanjeewani (25) and Nilakshi de Silva (32) added 28 runs for the fifth wicket but Yastika Bhatia ran out Sanjeewani to break the partnership. However, Ama Kanchana played with poise as she and De Silva added 42 for the seventh wicket before Meghna dismissed the latter.

Kanchana remained not out on 47 as she added valuable runs with the tailenders as Sri Lanka crossed the 150-run mark. Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets in the final over as the hosts were all out for 173 in 50 overs.

With a small total to chase, Mandhana and Verma made light work of the Sri Lanka bowlers, scoring at run-a-ball rate. Mandhana reached 23rd ODI fifty in 56 balls and stood six runs short of a sixth hundred after she capitalized on two reprieves gifted away from the Lankan fielders.

Verma played a second fiddle with four boundaries and a six as she reached her fourth ODI fifty in 56 balls. Mandhana's knock was studded with 11 boundaries and a six as India chased down the target with 24.2 balls remaining.

The third and final ODI will be played at Pallakele on July 7. India climbed up to second in the ICC Women's Championship table with four points.
