Richa Ghosh becomes seventh Indian player to secure WBBL deal

The young wicketkeeper-batter will play for Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart Hurricanes have signed Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh for the upcoming edition of the Women's Big Bash League, the franchise announced on Friday (October 1). The 18-year-old becomes the seventh Indian player from the current squad who is in Australia to link with the WBBL.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues (Melbourne Renegades), Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers), Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma (Sydney Thunder) are the other six members who will feature in WBBL 2020/21.

Ghosh made her ODI debut in the recently concluded three-match series and featured in all the encounters. The right-hander managed scores of 32* and 44 in the first two ODIs and impressed everyone with her strokeplay. She will join the squad after the T20I leg of the series that concludes on October 10.

"I’m very excited to be playing in the WBBL this year. I’m very thankful to the Hurricanes for this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to coming to Tasmania and meeting up with my new teammates," Ghosh said in a statement.

This signing will come as a huge boost for Hobart who lost the services of Rachel Trenaman and Lizelle Lee just weeks before the start of the season. They have also added up-and-coming teenagers Ruth Johnston and Angelina Genford to the squad.
