Having recovered from a finger injury sustained during the third Test at Lord’s, India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered another setback on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 23 (Wednesday) — this time injuring his right foot.
Pant, who was batting on 37, attempted a reverse sweep to a full-length delivery from Chris Woakes but ended up under-edging it onto his right foot. England reviewed the on-field not-out decision for an lbw, only to find a clear edge on UltraEdge.
Pant, meanwhile, was visibly in pain and immediately called for medical attention. There was noticeable swelling on his right foot along with some bleeding. Unable to stand, he had to be taken off the field on a medical buggy.
He was forced to retire hurt, and Ravindra Jadeja came in to bat. India will hope the injury isn't serious, especially considering Pant's exceptional form in the ongoing series. The left-hander has amassed 462 runs at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 78.30, including two centuries and two fifties.
