With Mitchell Marsh missing the game against Gujarat Titans (GT) due to his daughter being unwell, Rishabh Pant opened the innings for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12 (Saturday) but could still not turn his poor form around in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Opening the innings for the first time in the IPL after 3246 days (8 years, 10 months & 20 days), Pant looked scratchy and scored 21 off 18 deliveries before getting out to Prasidh Krishna.
Before today, Pant had opened in the IPL four times - all in 2016. In those four innings, the wicketkeeper-batter managed scores of 69, 2, 32 and 1. Pant has been in terrible form in the IPL 2025, having managed only 40 runs in five innings at an average of 8 and a strike rate of 80.
Against GT, Pant crafted four boundaries before getting a leading edge that went straight into the hands of the fielder at third man. Pant has also opened for India five times in T20Is, scoring 71 runs at an average of 14.2.
