The Indian Premier League (IPL) has sanctioned Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Shardul Thakur and assistant coach for breaching the code of conduct during their match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday (April 22). Pant and Thakur have been fined 100% of and 50% of their match fees respectively. Amre, on the other hand, has been slapped with a one-match ban along with being fined 100% of his match fee.
The incident pertains to DC holding up play in the final over of the match, wherein Rovman Powell received a full toss which the Delhi camp thought was above the waist. However, the on-field umpire deemed it legal and did not refer it to the third umpire, despite DC's insistence.
Pant with his gestures seem to be calling the batters back into the dugout, while Amre went on to the ground perhaps urging the on-field umpires to go upstairs. With 36 required off the final over, Powell sent the first three deliveries off Obed McCoy over the fence, but in the end, DC lost the game by 15 runs.
Pant has been sanctioned a Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, according to a statement released by IPL.
Amre admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and Thakur has been sanctioned 50 for a Level 2 offence under Article 2.8.
DC remain in sixth position following this defeat, while RR moved to the top of the IPL 2022 points table
