Rizwan first batter to reach 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year

Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan created the new record during the T20 World Cup semifinal against Australia

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter on Thursday became the first batter to reach 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year. In the T20 World Cup semifinal match against Australia, Rizwan launched Adam Zampa for a six in 12th over to complete 1000 runs in the shortest format for 2021.

Since the beginning of the year, the opener has scored ten fifties, including the one against Australia on Thursday, and a hundred at an average of 91.55 and strike rate of 135.9.

Rizwan's opening partner Babar Azam (826 from 20 innings) in the current year is the second highest in a calendar year. Previously, Ireland duo Paul Stirling (748 runs from 20 innings) and Kevin O'Brien (729 runs from 23 innings) held the record for most runs in 2019.

Rizwan is currently sixth in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
