Mumbai’s Musheer Khan has been ruled out of the Irani Cup clash against Rest of India after facing a road accident near Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. With the match starting on October 1 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Musheer Khan was travelling with his father from their base in Azamgarh, when the unfortunate accident happened.
The details of the accident and the nature of the injury are yet to be known. "He didn't travel with the Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably travelling from Azamgarh, with his father, to Lucknow when the accident happened," a source told TOI.
Musheer, the younger brother of Test batter Sarfaraz Khan, scored a scintillating 181 in the first-round game of the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru before fizzling out in the next two matches. However, his average of 51.14 in red-ball cricket has made him such an integral part of the Mumbai set-up.
Mumbai are yet to name a replacement for the middle-order batter. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side have Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani as the two other all-rounders at their disposal with Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Siddhesh Lad taking care of the bowling vertical. There is a high possibility that Sarfaraz Khan will also join the Mumbai team after failing to find a spot in the Indian team for the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
