Rohit fined for slow over-rate following MI's loss against DC

This was MI's first such offence and as a result, the captain was docked INR 12 lakh

Mumbai Indians (MI) Rohit Sharma has been fined as his side maintained a slow over-rate during the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 20) in Chennai. As this was the first such offence, Rohit was fined INR 12 lakh. According to the Indian Premier League (IPL) guidelines, if the teams were to repeat this again during the tournament, the captain will be docked INR 24 lakh and the rest of the team will be slapped with an INR 6 lakh fine or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser. 

However, for the third offence the captain will not just pay a hefty fine of INR 30 lakh, but he will also be banned for a match while the rest of his team will have to cough up INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser. 

"Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20, the IPL said in a statement.

"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh, the statement added.

Amit Mishra's four wickets helped DC restrict MI to 137 for 9. DC went on to win the match by six wickets and chased it down with five balls to spare. Mumbai currently lie in fourth place in the table and take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) next on April 23, while DC, who are placed second play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) next on April 25.
