India head coach Rahul Dravid said that captain Rohit Sharma has not yet been ruled out of the Test against England in Birmingham from July 1-5.
Earlier in the day, PTI reported that Rohit has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time and pacer Jasprit Bumrah likely to captain the Indian side.
"So the update on Rohit is that he is being monitored by our medical team, he is not yet been ruled out," Dravid said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Dravid said that he is not in a position to reveal the opener's availability with more than a day to go for the match.
"Obviously, he needs to get the negative test to be available. We will keep monitoring him, we have still got close to 36 hours to go so he will have a test later tonight and one maybe tomorrow morning as well," the former Indian captain said.
"We will see, it is really up to the medical team and sports science team to decide on that. We will keep monitoring."
Regarding the question if Bumrah will lead, Dravid said that the decision will be taken depending on Rohit's health.
"Once we have exact clarity on Rohit, you'll hear something from the official sources. It's not for me to give out official communication," Dravid said.
