Rohit Sharma fined for slow over-rate

Mumbai Indians lost the season opener by four wickets against Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for slow-rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season opener against Delhi Capitals, an official release said.

MI, who are yet to win their opening match of the campaign since 2012, succumbed to another loss on Sunday despite posting a target of 178 at the Brabourne Stadium.

"The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27," an official release said.

"As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs," it added.

MI will next face Rajasthan Royals on April 2 at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai while DC will lock horns against new entrants Gujarat Titans on the same day at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
