Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are one of the most successful opening pairs in the history of ODI cricket.
Together, the two amassed 5148 runs in 115 innings at an average of 45.6, studded with 18 100-plus stands. Only three other opening pairs have more runs than Dhawan and Rohit in the 50-over format.
Talking to Star Sports on the occasion of Friendship Day, Dhawan said: "I have opened with him for 8-10 years, so I have a strong bond with him. He is a gem of a person.
"Usse bada achha lagta tha jab mai ek gana gaata tha pitch pe (he used to like it a lot whenever I sang one particular song), 'putt jattan de bulaonde bakre'.
“So he would look at me and then sing the same song. It's one moment that repeated often. He remembered a couple of lines from the song, which he used to sing and then laugh."
Dhawan, 38, last played for India in December 2022. The left-handed batter featured in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is, scoring close to 11,000 runs in international cricket.
Dhawan is currently part of the Punjab Kings set-up in the Indian Premier League.
