Follow UsFormer India batter Gautam Gambhir has revealed Rohit Sharma is the only player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), who gave him sleepless nights.
Rohit is the most successful IPL captain, having led Mumbai Indians (MI) to five titles. However, Rohit's journey began with the now-defunct franchise Deccan Chargers with whom he won the tournament in 2009.
Rohit took over as MI captain in the middle of 2013 after Ricky Ponting stepped down mid-season. He did not just go on to lead MI to the IPL title, he also led them to victory in the Champions League T20.
"As captain, Rohit Sharma is the only player who gave me sleepless nights. Neither Chris Gayle nor AB de Villiers nor anyone else, only Rohit Sharma, "Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a couple of titles, said on Star Sports.
"He is the player who gave me sleepless nights. There is no more successful cricketer in the history of IPL than Rohit Sharma as captain."
Along with leading India across formats, Rohit will once again lead MI in the upcoming season, starting March 26. MI kick start their IPL 2022 campaign against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
MI have been placed in Group A along with DC, KKR, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
