Rohit Sharma rested for CSK match due to knee issue

Kieron Pollard led Mumbai Indians against CSK in Rohit's absence on Sunday

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma was rested for their opening match of the IPL 2021 second leg against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a knee niggle he sustained during the tour of England.

Rohit did not field during England's second innings of the fourth Test at the Oval.

"The message from the physio is 'assess every minute, don't look too far ahead'," Rohit had said after the Oval Test.

Kieron Pollard led MI in Rohit's absence which they lost by 20 runs. MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene said Rohit was kept out of the game as a precautionary measure.

"Rohit had something going in last Test (Oval), so we thought a couple of days of extra precaution," he said.

Mumbai Indians remain fourth in the table on eight points from as many matches. They will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday at the Sheikh Zayad Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
