Rohit Sharma Silences Doubters - Clears All Fitness Tests Ahead Of Australia Tour

Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Jitesh Sharma have also cleared their tests ahead of the Asia Cup 2025

Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma has successfully cleared all the pre-season fitness assessments at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on August 31 (Sunday), PTI reported. The 38-year-old opener is expected to remain in Bengaluru for a few more days to continue his training at the facility.

Rohit, who has already retired from T20Is and Tests, last featured in competitive cricket during IPL 2025, where he scored 418 runs at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28. While his T20 and Test numbers have dipped in recent years, his ODI form has remained exceptional.

Since the start of 2023, Rohit has amassed 1714 runs in 38 ODIs at an average of 48.97 and a strike rate of 117.2. His dominance in the powerplay has been particularly striking - he averages 67.41 at a blistering 122.57 strike rate in that phase, making him the only batter with more than 1000 runs inside the first 10 overs during this period.

As part of the testing process, Rohit cleared the Yo-Yo Test along with the newly introduced Bronco Test, implemented by India’s strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux. A DXA Scan, which evaluates bone density, was also carried out.

Having passed all the parameters, Rohit is now on course to captain India in the three-match ODI series in Australia in October. There is also speculation that both Rohit and Virat Kohli could turn out for India A in a three-match one-day series against Australia A, scheduled from September 30 to October 5.

Meanwhile, India Test captain Shubman Gill, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, and wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma - all part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad - also cleared their tests. Gill, who had to skip North Zone’s Duleep Trophy fixture due to fever, is expected to regain full fitness ahead of the T20 tournament beginning September 9.

The report further confirmed that Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur have cleared their assessments as well. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, and Riyan Parag are scheduled to undergo their tests in the coming days.
